Successful Gorilla Beach Ride

My mom, Papa Tom and I took the dogs down to Ocean Shores very own Butterclam Beach today with one idea in mind: get "those dogs" worn out!

Candy and Lula are extremely energetic dogs. The word "rambunctious" doesn't even start to describe their insane behavior lately. My dog, Candy (the one we adopted from North Beach PAWS last April), is unfortunately still super dog-aggressive and we can't let her off the leash. Sad thing is, when we walk on the beach she wants and needs to run after the Lula and the sea gulls in the waves and we can't even come close to running along side her as she is just way, way, way too fast and strong (see the story on what happened last time I took her off the leash).

Well brilliant idea #137 came along today in the form of a Gorilla Plastic Dump Cart! I tied Candy's long leash to the quick release dumping handle with a carabiner, then sat in the front taking control of the snazzy convertible T-handle which acted as my steering-wheel. Mom took these photos while I zipped off for the ride of my life down the beach!

All I have to say is that this was THE FUNNEST EXPERIENCE EVER!

The experiment was a complete success - the dogs are both exhausted and asleep on their beds, good girls! I will add more detailed photos next time on how to Do-It-Yourself. And by the way, I don't recommend trying this on cement without full body padding - you go really fast and get dumped out!

New Family Portrait and Private Collection Art Showing

On a dark and rainy evening, October 4th, 2002 to be exact, Cory and I drove an hour from our little country house in Puyallup to Seattle. At that time in our lives we still called Seattle "The Big City" and got butterflies anticipating the excitement of getting to experience new sounds, visuals, food and beer with friends. Our destination was "a cool art show with some really cool people" put on by a talented team at Vital 5 Productions. When we walked in, we were greeted by the show titled "BIG TIME", northwest pop art done in happy, bright colors that made the rain outside disappear.

We quickly fell in love with the humor and out-of-this-world talent of artist Zac Corum aka"Commander Corum" (as in "Commander Mark"). Here is "Commander Corum" the night of the show taken with my old Nikon F2 with Waist Level View Finder on Fuji Pro 800:

A couple of years after the show, we had the great honor of photographing his wedding to the oh-so-gorgeous Carolyn:

And now... we are happy to present and share with you our very own Zac Corum original family portrait!

About the Artist: Tanya likes poppies, bones, botanical rubbings, paint brushes, kitten heels, her cousins, lip gloss, anything fur, and smooshed faced cats. In her work, she tries to find the sweetness in the macabre, the sinister in the pretty and insignificant.
